Storyboard

There was a baby, and he was abandoned by his parents by a sewer. He managed to keep himself alive by eating any living things in the sewer like rats and insects. He had never met anyone and he doesn't know how to speak and communicate.
20 years later, his body got adapted to the environment. He now has webbed feet and fingers. His skin is pale and slimy. He has become a creature, half human half creature that is.
It's evolution. He developed an incredible crawling skill, but sadly his feet were undeveloped. He couldn't walk.

One day, this creature was adventuring through the pipes and tunnels, anywhere he can fit into. Suddenly he saw a flashing light on the ceiling, he tried very hard to climb up to the light just to take a look what the light is. It was a gutter and people were walking all over it in daylight. This creature was shocked at how people were walking, but their feet and not crawling. He soon realized that he couldn't do that. He felt hurt because he felt like he's something else. He doesn't even look like the people living above him!

After that day, he kept thinking about feet. He's obsessed with them. He wanted, to have feet like the people. He wanted to walk. One day he heard someone coming through the sewer, he went and peek, they were the sewer workers. This creature captured them and started chopping their legs off. But who would ever understand this creature, he didn't know what is right and what is wrong. The only thing he knew was right, was he's happy.

One day, a 5 year old kid named Oli was playing hide and seek with his friends. He thought it'd be a really good idea to hide in the sewers. As he  walked along the sewers, he suddenly saw the creature. Oli didn't scream, unlike the sewer workers. The creature was shocked how he reacted and he had never seen a person so small! Oli broke the silence and asked who he is. The creature couldn't talk. So Oli named him Brian and promised him to bring him chocolate next time. Oli squatted down to take a better look at him since the creature didn't seem harmful. The creature did the same, mostly wondering why this little boy didn't run away from him. Oli slowly reached out to grab his hands, and examined. Oli smiled in excitement telling the creature how awesome his fingers looked like. For once, the creature felt like himself. Someone admired his features just like he did to the people. His name is Brian.

The next day, little Oli came by the sewers again, this time with a few bars of chocolate. He shouted for Brian but no one replied. He kept walking and walking. Suddenly he fell into this deep end and because he's so little, he didn't know how to swim.

Brian heard the scream and quickly crawled to Oli's rescue. Luckily Brian can swim faster and anyone else, and Oli was saved. When he woke up, he gave Brian his chocolate. Brian had never tasted anything like that before. It was sweet and creamy. It melted in his mouth unlike the crunchy insects and the rough flesh of the rats. Since that day Brian and Oli had been having a lot of fun. Oli taught him how to speak, even though little Oli's english is not good either. Since that day, Brian seemed to have forgotten about his obsession towards feet. He had found something more amusing, something more important than his own feeling, Oli's existence. For months they have been having fun.

One day, Oli came to the sewers to see Brian as usual. He wasn't around, so Oli thought he should go around the sewers, epxloring this place a bit more before Brian comes back. He went until he found this door. He opened it. The smell of death engulfed him and the image he saw in front of his is an art of insanity. Blood everywhere, pieces of flesh were hanged on the ceiling. Oli turned around and tried to run away when he was Brian right behind him. Brian's heart sank. He told Oli to stop so he could explain to him but Oli didn't listen. He was in too much shock. Brian was trying his best to catch up with Oli but Oli was too fast, and Brian can't run as fast as he could.

Oli got out of one of the gutter and Brian followed. Brian didn't care about anything but his only friend. He showed himself to the crowd on broad day light. Someone spotted him and started screaming. People were so scared they called the police. Brian tried to run, but the fear from the people made him so nervous he doesn't know what to do. He was trapped. The noise was driving him insane.

The police came and shot Brian right at his heart. Oli heard the gunshot, saw the crowd and quickly ran to the area. He saw Brian lying on the floor, with red blood surrounding him, gasping for air. Oli ran and grabbed him, cradling his head in his arms. Brain told Oli with his last breath, that he only wanted to run like him, and to run with him. Brian lost his breath. A rare human being died in Oli's arms.

Lens Based Media

We were told to take 10 photos throughout the week that represents memories. We had to choose one from the bunch to draw from it, and I chose this one.
It was my first time going to this shop with my friends. In this photo, the girl on the left is Summer. The lady on the left is just random. I took this photo just because I love this shop, I've always loved astrology, fortune telling and all that mystical matters.
This photo is not as simple as it seems, I thought there are only 2 people in the photo, and a few in the background in the shop. But there's a face, either it is reflected on the glass of the door, or behind the door. (or maybe in front of the door, but... it's half transparent!) It is quite creepy. I only noticed that when I had to zoom in to draw that old lady.

Anyway, this is my drawing. Not that good. Bad time management. I should have just sketched the outline and make clear lines.

Cropping #1 This is supposed to be the astrology circle and Summer. I cropped this out because if I did this drawing a bit more detailed, it'll probably end up looking like a poster/ artwork for an astrology product. The ones with the astrology circle in the background and the Goddess.

Cropping #2 Funny thing is, the old lady doesn't look that angry in the real photo. It was just coincidence that she looked like she was going to grab Summer around her neck in this drawing.

This was an interesting poster. Cropping a photo out and making look like it has a different meaning reminds me of what paparazzi does. Haha.

My Future Exhibition

Today we were told to make something to promote our own future exhibition in 2033. I thought of having an awesome graphics exhibition, but I was always struggling with having a fashion exhibition too. So I  did 2 versions. I got a few ideas and drew them out quickly, then chose one design to go for. I first did some colour matching and sketching in my sketchbook, figuring out the details like... the image, the font and what to write on it.
I've always loved MoMA museum so I went with it.
This is for my graphics exhibition. Personally I would love to show the style of my drawing to people who doesn't know me, and maybe, they'll be interested in seeing my work. So this piece is nothing deep, just straight on promoting my exhibition. I named it 'This is so weird.' because I say it all the time and I don't know why! I guess it also adds mystery to my exhibition...
I used markers and ink.

This is my another poster, possibly for my fashion exhibition. I went for a more simple but with a little bit of detailed drawing. I think for clothing, you can't have too much details, or they will just be too over powering, loosing its identity. So here I drew a gate, and it says Ophelia 2033. I tried to incorporate the style of clothing that I would make into the font. I've always loved making big dresses with bustles and corsets, with a darker interpretation. So again, in this poster, I'm applying the style of my work into this poster in another way other than clothing.

Overall I had a lot of fun, I've learnt a lot from classmates. Some of them have deep meanings in it, and they are really interesting. However, I prefer the way that I work here, posters have always been something that sells product and promote events to me.

Alphabets.

Alphabets. Talking about alphabets and words, I find it really interesting how people can 'invent' alphabets, put them together to form words that we can pronounce and understand. This question had been in my mind for quite a while. Doing this project made me understand how difficult it is to create symbols and alphabets...

So here are some work of how I'll make my mark.
The drawing is from Summer. But I did the stain, it was from the can of Monster Energy that I was drinking from. I don't even know what the mark is. The stain has too much droplets around it, so it'll be too complicated to be a mark.

A witch's hand. To me, swearing is really important. I swear all the time and I put my middle finger up so often I usually hurt it (in this week I've already burnt and cut my middle finger. :)  )  Swearing is not even offensive in my world, they are just words to express how angry I am, how annoying things are, how happy I am, how tasty sushi is etc. So here, this mark will represent a statement. This is my favorite work of the day. :D

Random thing that I made, it's supposed to look like an V.

Another random thing that I made, it's supposed to be an 'a'. This was my first work, I didn't really like it.

Creating my own font!!! I always loved doing that. I didn't know what to call it so Summer said... 'Groggle'. So my font is called Groggle. It sounds like a cute version of Gargoyles. And I love Gargoyles. :D
I used pen here, and it has a brush tip to create this shaky and uneven lines.

Graphics- Day 1

Today we did a lot of drawings. First thing was to draw in a different way. I've done this before in my old school and I really liked drawing with my eyes closed.
Drawing with mouth. - Summer (sharpie)

Not looking and in continuous line ( I kind of failed this one, because after a few minutes of continuous line, I started to forget to continue with the line. Haha...) - Qandeel (pencil)

Left-hand - Sam (marker)

Not looking - Siobhan (charcoal)
So far, my favorite is the drawing of Siobhan. I like how simple it looks, even though it doesn't look like Siobhan at all. These exercises definitely helped me with drawing in a different way other than drawing realistic portraits. I had a lot of fun too, it was funny looking at what each other's drawing.

The next thing we did was to draw a friend's ear, I drew Summer's. Again it was really fun, I got into the drawing zone so it was really enjoyable. Personally I know the ear quite well as I always look at my ear piercings etc the folds are really good to draw but as time was limited, I tried to make it look better with fast pen strokes. Since I've never really drawn an ear that close, this was something new to me and I find it really interesting. It makes me know the ear more.
Drawing of Summer's ear- with marker pen

My favorite part. Collage. This was originally a really old poster of  Axl Rose. I had it for a while. We were told to bring in images of faces and I brought a few, I mostly have music magazines, so there weren't that much famous people in there. The face that I chose to use as a base was Rooney Mara. I love Rooney Mara, so I felt a bit sad for ruining her face... I love doing this project, I had so much fun andI laughed so much. Other than making this a creature, I made it into something that I would laugh at. Just because Rose's pose is quite funny.

Spaghetti

Today we were told to make a structure out of spaghetti, to hold up three balls. *I chose the rasta balls.*
I  did a few sketches of the structure on my sketchbook and decided, in the limited time and spaghetti , I chose to make this. It was really frustrating at first because the blue tack didn't stick properly, but luckily I'm a person who deals with small stuff and when I get into the zone, I can be really gentle. During this project I've only broken 3 spaghetti sticks, which I still chose to reuse them in other parts.
Glue gun time, everything went quite smoothly for me when using glue gun, I didn't have any problems with the model apart from the fact that I actually burnt my finger. It was really painful.

As you can see, it held up the rasta balls pretty well. I really like the way it looks too, reminds me of children's toys. Overall I just think mine is quite simple, I think I need to take some more risks, step out of the safety zone, so I can create something else.

However, the second part of our project, was to create a barrier so it protects the spaghetti structure from destruction, using a piece of paper. I created a box, I left quite a lot of space between the top of the box and the actual structure, folded some ridges so when objects falls on it, ridges will help divide up the force.

It was time to check. We used a basketball to check whether our spaghetti structure gets destroyed or not. MINE DIDN'T !! Okay, there might be a LITTLE bent part at the bottom, but it was fixed just by twisting it. I was really glad that I succeeded. I hoped for it to work and it did! This project was quite challenging, because of the fragile spaghetti and the unknown (of the force that the barrier would take). I quite liked this project.

Bridge building

Today we divided up into groups and was assigned to build a gigantic bridge.
I remember doing that when I was young... just a lot smaller.
I enjoyed working together a lot, I probably could not do a thing without some help, as I'm so weak at building stuff...
Our group first drew a sketch of how our bridge was going to be and one of the member made a simple small paper model. It didn't really turn out like the way it should be, but I guess interpretation is still better than sticking to the original plan. During this project I was cutting up boards and stuff, simply I liked cutting stuff up, and I think I did a decent job on that. In the end we finished our bridge on time, and for the rest of the minutes we just kept on checking, making sure everything's stable etc.

When we finished, there was a remote control car that needed to pass along the bridge, to see if the bridge actually works. Ours was a success. I'm really pleased with what we made. It is always easier with someone helping out and I enjoyed it a lot.

Holding things up...

Today we did paper models to hold things up.
Like a water bottle.
I failed so badly. It was fun though. I knew I wasn't good at this but I still tried.
This was the first time working alone with this matter, I find it a lot harder, especially using paper only. Lucky enough I have time to finish off making the structure.

Opps.

I think I underestimated the weight of the water bottle... It held ANOTHER water bottle though! It needs a bigger base and a stronger structure.

Here is what I made out of 4 cardboards. It is supposed to hold up a person, sitting down, standing up or lying down. And it has to fit through the gap of a bulletin board (behind the thing that I made, see below). It can get through if we disassemble it.
I could sit on it, use it as a stool, and it's cute! After finishing the structure I was looking at it. It reminded me of buildings in Hong Kong. Really packed and in different heights. So I decided to add little windows and stuff to it to make it more interesting. :D

This is me sitting on it. It held up pretty well. I'm happy about it. Still better than the thing that I made to hold up the water bottle.
This project was not easy for me at all. However, I think I'm getting better at making these stuff. At least this time my stool did not collapse! I finished my creation earlier than most of my classmates did, so I was happy about my speed of working too.

Burying my time capsule

Burying my time capsule... I was thinking about sending it to my friend's place in HK, but then I thought... what if I ask for it, my friend will be so willing to give it back.

So, I decided to put it in my brother's place. In his fridge. If you think about brothers and sisters, the relationship between them would NOT be good. I'm taking this chance to leave it there, and hopefully, he will not give it back to me (especially when he's annoyed with me.).
Here is my time capsule, and food.

(zoom in)

Okay we're done here.

V&A Museum - Memory Palace

This trip to the Memory Palace is one of the best exhibition I've seen. Pieces of work displayed in the exhibition were really interesting and dark. I love how most of the works are so graphical. I'm most attracted to pieces that relates to religion and science, and this exhibition has all what I wanted to see. Sadly this exhibition doesn't allow us to take photos or even to sketch. So here are some sketches that I could remember from MY memory palace.

Le Gun (sketch)
This is an installation from Le Gun. I absolutely LOVE the way he made something real and normal shaped objects (e.g: Bottles (I'm obsessed with bottles too, like old medicine bottles), a wagon, a box, a poster) into something really cartoon-y and illustrative. The use of black and white just makes everything more interesting to look at, after all I love black and white. This is a sketch I did after the exhibition. This is all I can remember from what are inside the wagon.
All of these objects ( human limbs, medicine bottles, human body chart, eyeballs, potions etc) represents medication, and I'm guessing witchcraft or some sort.
Le Gun (sketch)
Here is a sketch of Le Gun's wagon. After seeing the word 'NHS' on the wagon, everything made more sense. There's a sense of mockery right there. Beneath the mask of monster, I could see human hands. This piece of work reminds of Mr Pirelli's and his bottle of Miracle Elixir from the film Sweeney Todd.

 Le Gun. Magic Hour

Le Gun. Magic Hour (close up)

Jim Kay. Reliuary (sketch)
This is another installation that interests me a lot in the Memory Palace exhibition. Here is a sketch of it. This piece is created by Jim Kay. The shape of this box reminds me a lot of churchs' arch and windows. The illustrations on the sides of the door are definitely influenced by classical art. The use of colours, blue and gold is also really important. Royal colours I'm guessing.
The crow on the top is really really striking. Crows have been consider to be an animal which brings bad luck. The little pendent that the crow was carrying in its beak has a skull drawn in it, while the thing ( I think it's supposed to be a family tree) in the middle has birds pendents hanging around it. This piece made me think a lot. I wish I could have a few more drawings, but I couldn't remember what is in the drawer...
Anna and Elena Balbusso. Eugene Onegin.

Anna and Elena Balbusso. Eugene Onegin.
These illustrations by Anna and Elena Balbusso look really depressing. I'm loving them because of that. There's also this romantic atmosphere in these pieces, which makes them even more depressing. I personally love illustrations, especially those which are fantasy-based. These pieces contain unrealistic images and I think that is why they attracted me.
