V&A Museum - Memory Palace

This trip to the Memory Palace is one of the best exhibition I've seen. Pieces of work displayed in the exhibition were really interesting and dark. I love how most of the works are so graphical. I'm most attracted to pieces that relates to religion and science, and this exhibition has all what I wanted to see. Sadly this exhibition doesn't allow us to take photos or even to sketch. So here are some sketches that I could remember from MY memory palace.

Le Gun (sketch)
This is an installation from Le Gun. I absolutely LOVE the way he made something real and normal shaped objects (e.g: Bottles (I'm obsessed with bottles too, like old medicine bottles), a wagon, a box, a poster) into something really cartoon-y and illustrative. The use of black and white just makes everything more interesting to look at, after all I love black and white. This is a sketch I did after the exhibition. This is all I can remember from what are inside the wagon.
All of these objects ( human limbs, medicine bottles, human body chart, eyeballs, potions etc) represents medication, and I'm guessing witchcraft or some sort.
Le Gun (sketch)
Here is a sketch of Le Gun's wagon. After seeing the word 'NHS' on the wagon, everything made more sense. There's a sense of mockery right there. Beneath the mask of monster, I could see human hands. This piece of work reminds of Mr Pirelli's and his bottle of Miracle Elixir from the film Sweeney Todd.

Jim Kay. Reliuary (sketch)
This is another installation that interests me a lot in the Memory Palace exhibition. Here is a sketch of it. This piece is created by Jim Kay. The shape of this box reminds me a lot of churchs' arch and windows. The illustrations on the sides of the door are definitely influenced by classical art. The use of colours, blue and gold is also really important. Royal colours I'm guessing.
The crow on the top is really really striking. Crows have been consider to be an animal which brings bad luck. The little pendent that the crow was carrying in its beak has a skull drawn in it, while the thing ( I think it's supposed to be a family tree) in the middle has birds pendents hanging around it. This piece made me think a lot. I wish I could have a few more drawings, but I couldn't remember what is in the drawer...

These illustrations by Anna and Elena Balbusso look really depressing. I'm loving them because of that. There's also this romantic atmosphere in these pieces, which makes them even more depressing. I personally love illustrations, especially those which are fantasy-based. These pieces contain unrealistic images and I think that is why they attracted me.
